Amber clung to her big brothers arm, and to her stuffed horse, as the car pulled up the drive and stopped in front of a strange house. The stranger got out and opened the door. Jackson let go of Amber, got out and grabbed both of their bags and then he beckoned for Amber to come out. When she did, he took her hand.
Natasha come outside, followed by Dasiy, and greeted the young children with a smile. "Hello" she greeted. "I'm Miss Lanly. You must be Jackson and Amber. I got a call saying that you would be arriving today. It's so nice to meet you. I'd shake your hands but you guys look like you've both got your hands full."
Jackson and Amber, who still clung fearfully to her brother and to her stuffed horse, couldn't help but focus their eyes on the little dog, when she came outside. Jackson knew that there was no way to know if this dog was safe to approach yet, much less if this new stranger was. "That's alright miss" Jack told her, in his most serious tone. "We're not much for handshakes."
Natasha could tell that the children were scared, but she had expected them to be and she hoped that she could make them feel safe. She notices them looking at her dog. "That's my friend Dasiy. She's a Yourkish Terrior. You can pet her if you want. She's really friendly."
Jackson hesitates before stepping toward the dog, leading Amber with him. "Now remember to let her sniff your hand first" he tells Amber, crouching down and setting the bags on the floor. Amber nervously sets Horsie on her lap while watching Jackson hold his hand out. Daisy sniff's Jackson hand and then Amber holds out her's and she does the same. Taking that as permission, they both starting petting her.
Natasha is glad to see the kids enjoying the dog. She speaks to the social worker quickly and turns back to the kids to see that they are still petting Daisy. Not wanting to rush them, she stands back and watches. She notices the girls stuffed horse and looks forward to showing her the real horse and ponies later.
